Rep. Schakowsky Statement on House Republican Budget Proposal
Washington, DC (March 20, 2012) - Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) released the following statement in response to the Republican budget plan proposed by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI):
“Budgets are about priorities – and the Ryan budget is further evidence that the Republicans will do anything to cut taxes for millionaires and billionaires, protect the big oil industry and subsidize companies that send jobs overseas. We know who wins in the Republican budget – the richest 1 percent. And we know who loses – seniors, the middle-class, and low-income families struggling to succeed.
The Republican budget lowers taxes for the wealthy and raises costs for seniors. It cuts investments in job creation, education for children, and restoration of our crumbling infrastructure, in order to further enrich the already rich. It does not reflect American needs or American values. And it must be rejected.”
