WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the House Democratic Task Force on Aging and Families, reintroduced the Stop Unfair Medicaid Recoveries Act. This legislation would repeal the federal mandate that requires state Medicaid programs go after families and estates for repayment of Medicaid long-term care services.

I am back in Washington for yet another busy week! Not only is President Joe Biden set to deliver his State of the Union Address this Thursday night, but Congress is finally prepared to act on our Fiscal Year 2024 budget.  For weeks, I have told you that far-right Republicans have hijacked the appropriations process in favor of extreme budget cuts and poison pill policies that will only harm Americans. I am pleased to report that a bipartisan agreement has been reached on six of the 12 appropriations bills, and we are expecting a vote this week.

Last week was another busy week in the 9th Congressional District! I love being out and about in the district, and this week was particularly exciting. I spent quite a bit of time in the newer parts of my district, McHenry and Lake Counties, and I also had the opportunity to meet with two different groups of high school students to discuss issues that are on their minds.
