Schakowsky, Duckworth, Schneider Host Federal Grants Workshop

U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), and U.S. Representative Brad Schneider (IL-10) today hosted a federal grants workshop in Northbrook, Illinois. The morning session highlighted resources available to local governments for transportation, infrastructure, flood mitigation and first responders. The afternoon session focused on community organizations and individuals with an emphasis on cultural programming and funding available through private foundations. A photo of the grants workshop is available here.

“The federal grants process may seem difficult to navigate, but it can bring millions of dollars to outstanding local projects,” said Schakowsky. “That’s I was so pleased to help make today’s workshop a reality. My office and I are always happy to help bridge the gap between federal agencies and local organizations to help bring in much needed resources to our communities.”

“Reaching as many Illinoisans as possible, addressing their concerns and serving as a resource is one of my top priorities as a Senator,” Duckworth said. “Today’s grants workshop brought federal agencies and local partners that are available to help together with municipalities, community organizations and individuals. I will continue doing all that I can to identify and help secure federal resources for our great state.”

"So far this year, $8.1 million in federal grants have been awarded to 25 organizations and local governments in our district,” Schneider said. “Our office can help constituents find federal grant opportunities, understand the application process, and write letters of support. I was glad to participate in today’s event to help constituents access these important federal resources.”

Representatives from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Illinois Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Illinois Treasurer’s Office, Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, Lake County Stormwater Management Commission, Forefront, National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and Lake County Community Foundation participated in today’s panels.
