Statement from Congresswoman Schakowsky on Mueller Report and Attorney General’s Summary

CHICAGO, IL – Today, U.S. Attorney General William Barr delivered to Congress a four-page summary of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report. Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Vice Chair of the Democracy Reform Task Force, made the following statement in response to the summary’s delivery:

“President Trump has already lied about the Mueller report saying it ‘completely and totally exonerated’ him. In fact, the letter from Attorney General Barr made clear that the Mueller report explicitly does NOT exonerate the President from charges of obstruction of justice.

"Throughout the 22 months of the Mueller investigation, the President has called it a  ‘witch hunt’, ignoring the fact that 34 individuals, some very close to the President, and three businesses already have been indicted, convicted, sent to prison or pled guilty.

"The four-page letter from A.G. Barr raises more questions than answers. Over the next few days, the House Democrats will be asking for not only the full report, but also all of the underlying documents."

"In my opinion, today is the best day, with respect to the Mueller report, that the President will have for a long time. I would recommend to him and the Republicans to refrain from breaking out or even buying the champagne yet.”
