Centro Romero and their Senior Community Service Employment Program Harmed by Rauner Budget

August 11, 2015

This morning I met with Centro Romero Executive Director Daysi Funes outside of their offices in Chicago. They have posted a message about the budget on their window because they had to close their Family Service Program and lay off four staffers because the immigrant services line item has no funds. Centro Romero also provides needed employment training for seniors, and I heard from the staff who are still working very hard to help people in this community. But with limited funds, things only continue to get worse while Governor Bruce Rauner holds the budget hostage. I will keep working with Centro Romero and many other advocates across the state until we secure a budget that is best for all Illinoisans.
