Congresswoman Schakowsky Promotes Census Job Opportunities This Week

December 17, 2019
Press Release

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky announced several opportunities this week to meet with staff and apply to work for the 2020 Census.  Every ten years, the United States Census Bureau is tasked with counting every single individual in the country.  This work is incredibly important.  These census counts impact congressional representation, federal funding formulas, and more.

To ensure a proper count, the Census Bureau is looking to fill hundreds of thousands of positions in the weeks and months ahead.  There are many great benefits to temporary Census employment.  These benefits include competitive pay (census workers in Cook County will range from $26 to $29 an hour) and flexible hours – making census work viable as a second job for those interested. More information on requirements and frequently asked questions is available at https://2020census.gov/en/jobs.html.

“It is critically important to count everyone in Illinois accurately for the 2020 census, and we need your help to do so,” Schakowsky said. “By taking the time to work for the census, you can help make sure that your community is effectively counted and receive great employment benefits at the same time.”

Congresswoman Schakowsky’s will deploy staff to a series of events with representatives of the Census who are available to answer questions and help individuals apply. These events will be taking place throughout the 9th Congressional District.  Staff from Alderman Maria Hadden’s office will also be participating in events at the Rogers Park Branch.
