House Democrats Unveil Plan for a Middle Class Jumpstart

July 16, 2014

Washington, D.C.– Today House Democrats released their 100-Day Action Plan to jumpstart the middle class. Rep. Jan Schakowsky released the following statement on the plan:

“House Republicans’ flawed priorities have stalled middle class opportunity while consistently stacking the deck for wealthy special interests.

Instead of tax incentives to create good paying jobs to ‘Make It In America,’ they give tax favors to corporations that ship jobs overseas.

Instead of allowing college students to refinance staggering student debts, they protect bank profits.

Instead of passing legislation to make sure women receive equal pay for equal work, they support putting bosses in charge of women's health freedoms. They even threatened to shut down the government to stop women from accessing Planned Parenthood.

In contrast our agenda jumpstarts the middle class. Within 100 days of a Democratic House Majority we will introduce and pass the following specific initiatives to help American families:

  • Provide incentives for creating good jobs with the 21st Century Make it In America Act
  • Build American Bonds Act to boost job growth through infrastructure – paid for by closing corporate tax loopholes
  • Raise the federal minimum wage from $7.25/hour to $10.10/hour with the Fair Minimum Wage Act
  • CEO/Employee Pay Fairness Act to limit deductibility of CEO bonuses
  • Finally provide equal pay for women with the Paycheck Fairness Act
  • Healthy Families Act to ensure paid sick leave & increase access to affordable child care
  • Assure women’s access to comprehensive health care and family planning
  • Bank on Students Emergency Loan Refinancing Act to make college more affordable
  • Increase early childhood education with the Strong Start for America’s Children Act

The American people have a clear choice: Support Republicans who have proven time and time again that the super-rich and special interest groups are their priority, or empower Democrats to fight for middle class Americans and those trying to reach the middle class.
