Illinois Democrats kick off ACA Open Enrollment
CHICAGO- Today, eight Democratic members of the Illinois Congressional delegation, joined by Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Julie Morita, came together to announce the beginning of the ACA Open Enrollment season, which starts on November 1st and ends on December 15th.
Senator Dick Durbin, Reps Schakowsky, Davis, Gutierrez, Quigley, Foster, Schneider, and Krishnamoorthi, urged Illinois residents to visit www.getcovered.illinois.govand to call 866-311-1119 for assistance while shopping for insurance plans.
The lawmakers stressed the importance of being covered, especially since all plans provide essential health benefits and cannot include annual or lifetime limits. Since coverage is guaranteed and Illinois residents could face a penalty of $695 for not having it, it is crucial that everyone gets covered. For those worried about costs, it is important to remember that financial assistance is available and that your cost is based on your income. This year, 80% of people qualified for help paying premiums – and most could find coverage for between $50 and $100 per month.
Representatives from the Illinois Coalition for Health Access were also present at today’s event to explain that everyone can get free, expert assistance by phone or in-person to learn about plans and compare options. Even those currently enrolled in plans should compare their options – better and more affordable plans may be available! Everyone must act by the enrollment deadline: December 15th.
