Washington, DC (March 20, 2013) — Rep. Jan Schakowsky announces YOU CHOOSE, a website designed to give the American people a choice about the budget:

"I'm launching YOU CHOOSE today because I want to hear from my constituents and people around the country. Congress will be making budget choices over the coming days and weeks that will affect every person and business in our country. It is critical to acknowledge that the question facing us isn't just whether we solve our fiscal challenges, but how we do it.

"The current across-the-board spending cuts that are in place, known as the sequester, are detrimental to middle class families, teachers, schools, jobs, and our seniors. But there is another way. We could replace the full amount of deficit reduction in the sequester, preventing looming job losses and an economic slowdown, by addressing tax provisions that benefit wealthy corporations and individuals. If those tax subsidies were eliminated, we could raise more than $820 billion over just 5 years, and more than $1.2 trillion over the next ten years — the full amount of the sequester cuts. It's time for Americans to weigh in with their choices."
