Rep. Schakowsky: ‘Meet the new Trumpcare, same as the old Trumpcare.'

Today, Representative Jan Schakowsky released the following statement after Republican Senators unveiled their latest bill to attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act and rip coverage away from millions of Americans.

“Meet the new Trumpcare, same as the old Trumpcare.

“Today, Senate Republicans released a bill that can only be distinguished from the previous failed versions of Trumpcare because of the concessions it gives to individual Senators in hopes of scrounging up enough votes to pass. Like its predecessors, this legislation would drastically raise health care costs for millions of Americans, especially those with pre-existing conditions and those over 50.

“Yet again, Republicans are stubbornly attempting to pass a piece of legislation that rips health care coverage away from millions of Americans only to give massive tax cuts to large corporations. My colleagues from across the aisle seem to believe that health care is a privilege that should be extended only to the wealthy few. I firmly believe that health care is a right, and I invite my colleagues to abandon their crusade against Americans’ health care and instead work with Democrats to increase and improve coverage under the Affordable Care Act.”
