Rep. Schakowsky Statement on Recess Appointment of Richard Cordray
WASHINGTON, DC (January 4, 2012) — Rep. Jan Schakowsky issued the following statement following President Barack Obama's recess appointment of Richard Cordray to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
I applaud President Obama's decision to use his authority to appoint Richard Cordray as director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. It's been over 17 months since the Dodd-Frank bill creating the Bureau was signed into law. For over 17 months, the country has been waiting for Congressional Republicans to drop their obstructionism and let the Bureau do its job: giving long-awaited assistance to consumers struggling with unfair and confusing mortgage and lending practices. Consumers cannot afford to wait any longer for Senate Republicans to drop their stalling tactics and let this appointment go forward. Today, thanks to the President's leadership, they won't have to.
