Rep. Schakowsky Statement on Senate Vote on the American Jobs Act

WASHINGTON D.C. (October 11, 2011) —Today, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.)released the following statement after Senate Republicans blocked action on President Obama's American Jobs Act:

"Tonight, every Republican in the Senate voted to block action against a common sense plan to create jobs vitally needed to boost economic recovery. Republicans are now on record against jobs for American workers, rebuilding our infrastructure and preventing layoffs.

Republicans have chosen to ignore the voice of the majority of Americans — 58% according to a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll — that believe the American Jobs Act would improve the jobs situation. Many economists have said that the Americans Jobs Act would increase economic growth and cut the unemployment rate.

With 14 million out of work and six million Americans set to lose federal unemployment relief by next year, this is not the time for members of Congress to place a brake on action that would create jobs. Americans deserve better than partisanship in Washington in the face of a real jobs crisis. ...
