REPRESENTATIVE SCHAKOWSKY URGES ALL RESIDENTS IN THE CHICAGO AREA TO FILL OUT CENSUS FORM

WILL LEAD VOLUNTEERS ON APRIL 1 FOR CENSUS DAY OF ACTION TO ENCOURAGE EVERYONE IN THE COMMUNITY TO "STAND UP AND BE COUNTED"

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today joined members of Congress to urge everyone to complete their Census forms as soon as possible.

"Too much is at stake for our children's education, our parent's health, and our community's future to not stand up and be counted. Unfortunately, as of today, only 43% of the people in Cook County have filled out their Census forms. That is well below the target rate. It is time to convince the rest that in order for our community to get its fair share of federal dollars for education, senior programs, and healthcare, every person must participate in the Census," Schakowsky said.

Schakowsky also announced a "Census Day of Action" on April 1, 2000. Schakowsky will join volunteers in the Chicago area to encourage the community to "Stand Up and Be Counted." This effort is organized in conjunction with the members of CAALI and ICIRR.
