Republicans Sue the President over the Affordable Care Act, yet Report Shows the Health Law Continues to Have Success

July 11, 2014

Washington, D.C. – “Speaker Boehner and House Republicans should make up their minds. First, they waste time and taxpayer dollars on 52 votes to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Then, they want to waste time and taxpayer dollars to sue President Obama for executive actions he took to delay the employer mandate of the Affordable Care Act. No wonder the American public is confused. The announcement of the Boehner/Republican planned lawsuit came on the very day we got new evidence on how well the Affordable Care Act is working for Americans.”

A new report from the independent Commonwealth Fund states the following:

  • There are now 9.5 million more insured adults than last year
  • 60 percent of adults with new coverage have received care – and two-thirds of them said that they could not have afforded or gotten needed treatment before Obamacare
  • 60 percent of the newly insured are young adults under the age of 35
  • Customer satisfaction is high. Even 74 percent of Republicans say they like their new plans

“My message to the House Republicans: get over your opposition to providing affordable health care, stop wasting taxpayer dollars, and let us vote on what really matters – creating jobs, raising the minimum wage, renewing emergency unemployment insurance benefits, providing equal pay for women, voting rights and immigration reform.”
