Schakowsky, 195 Dems tell President Trump to abandon Obamacare sabotage

May 24, 2017

Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and 195 House Democrats sent a letter urging President Trump to not betray the American people by holding back the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) cost-sharing reduction (CSR) payments. Rep Schakowsky released the following statement after sending the letter:

“President Trump is playing games with the health, wellbeing, and financial stability of the American people,” said Rep. Schakowsky. “Millions of hard working American families will suffer immensely if President Trump does not immediately provide the certainty that he will make the Affordable Care Act’s cost-sharing reduction payments. Anything less than that would constitute a blatant sabotage of our nation’s health care infrastructure. If his Administration goes forward with their sabotage, the blame for the skyrocketing premiums and out-of-pocket costs that would ensue rests squarely at their feet.”

In the letter, House Democrats stressed the President’s obligation to make these payments, saying:

“It is your responsibility to the American people and your obligation under the law to make the cost –sharing reduction payments and to stop other acts of sabotage that undermine Americans’ access to affordable, quality health insurance.”
