SCHAKOWSKY ANNOUNCES $2.9 MILLION COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT FOR THE CITY OF EVANSTON

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today announced that the Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded the City of Evanston a $2,898,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).

"These are vital funds that will help improve the quality of life for many residents in the city of Evanston. Every dollar that the federal government invests in our cities to promote economic growth, revitalize our neighborhoods, improve public facilities and assist the homeless is a dollar well spent," said Schakowsky.

"The City of Evanston has made significant strides in responding to housing needs and promoting economic growth throughout the community. We welcome federal support and appreciate Representative Jan Schakowsky's efforts to continue to enhance this much needed support," said Mayor Lorraine H. Morton.

The Community Development Block Grant will be used by the city of Evanston to expand homeless assistance efforts, rehabilitate single and multi-family homes, improve public parks, and conduct public works projects.

"I will work to ensure that the federal government expands its commitment to these programs," added Schakowsky, a member of the Banking Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity.
