Schakowsky Applauds Bedoya Confirmation to FTC

WASHINGTON - Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, issued the following statement on Alvaro Bedoya's confirmation to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC):

"I applaud my colleagues in the Senate for confirming Alvaro Bedoya as an FTC commissioner earlier today. Commissioner Bedoya is a privacy leader with expertise at the intersection of policy, technology, and law, and their impacts on historically marginalized people.

"This confirmation gives the agency a full complement of commissioners which it needs to continue to pursue aggressive means to protect the privacy and data security of the American people and regulate potentially harmful emerging technologies. Professor Bedoya's confirmation continues the strong momentum to hold online platforms, pharmaceutical companies, and others accountable for unfair or deceptive business practices and anticompetitive behavior."
