Schakowsky Applauds Bipartisan Calls for Investigation into Russian Hacking
Today, Representative Jan Schakowsky issued the following statement to call for further investigation into Russian election hacking:
“American elections should be determined by American voters free of foreign interference. I am deeply disturbed by reports from our intelligence community that Russian-backed hackers tried to influence our presidential election. This goes beyond politics or political party. We must take action to understand what happened and work in a bipartisan manner to address this threat to our democracy.
“This is a matter of our national security and sovereignty. I appreciate that Republican leaders like House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senators Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, and John McCain have joined Democrats in the call for Congressional investigation into Russian hacking. We must act to protect our democracy. I strongly support the creation of an independent commission to explore Russian election tampering, and I hope we can work together to ensure a thorough investigation.”
