Schakowsky Applauds Lina Khan’s Nomination Advancement to Senate Floor

May 12, 2021

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, issued the following statement in support of Lina Khan's nomination to the Federal Trade Commission:

"I applaud my colleagues on the Senate Commerce Committee for advancing Lina Khan's nomination to the Federal Trade Commission. I am so pleased by this positive first step, and am excited about what she'll achieve as an FTC commissioner. The Federal Trade Commission must be revitalized, and I know Ms. Khan will work tirelessly to achieve this shared goal. She will bring her impressive antitrust expertise to the Commission alongside a strong desire to protect consumers and foster a healthy and prosperous marketplace.

"This bipartisan vote to advance Ms. Khan's nomination demonstrates that Congress is finally ready to take action to hold technology companies accountable for unfair business practices and anticompetitive behavior. As I said at our hearing with Big Tech CEOs, the era of self-regulation has come to an end."
