SCHAKOWSKY: BUSH ADMINISTRATION'S MISSTATEMENT OF THE DAY -
MANUFACTURING JOBS

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) issued today's "Bush Administration's Misstatement of the Day" on manufacturing jobs.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Donald Evans, who will be testifying before the Energy and Commerce Committee this week about the state of our economy and job growth, said on March 15, 2004:

President Bush will continue to push his growth agenda so that more jobs are created for Americans. To further help grow manufacturing jobs and succeed in a worldwide economy, the Bush administration is working on more than 57 recommendations outlined in the Commerce Department's Manufacturing report."
However, according to a U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 48 states have lost manufacturing jobs since President Bush took office, including Illinois, which has lost 139,900 manufacturing jobs.
