SCHAKOWSKY: BUSH ADMINISTRATION'S MISSTATEMENT OF THE DAY -
MEDICAL MALPRACTICE

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) issued today's "Bush Administration's Misstatement of the Day" on medical malpractice.

During a speech yesterday in Little Rock, Arkansas, President Bush said:

"[o]ne of the major cost drivers in the delivery of health care are these junk and frivolous lawsuits."
However, according to a Congressional Budget Office report released on January 8, 2004, ".even large savings in medical malpractice premiums will only have a small impact on overall health care costs because malpractice costs account for less than 2% of overall health care costs."
