Schakowsky calls for an end to the Trump Shutdown

Today on the House floor, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky called for an end to the Trump Shutdown, explaining that the priorities at the heart of this debate had bipartisan support, as well as the support of the American people. She asked her Republican colleagues:

“Who are the 218 Republicans who oppose addressing veterans’ programs, workers’ pensions, and the opioid epidemic?”

She also asked for unanimous consent to bring up H.R. 4872, the “End the Shutdown Act of 2018”, a continuing resolution that would immediately reopen the government until Tuesday while Congress negotiates these crucial issues. This request was denied by House Republicans.
