Schakowsky calls for Jeff Sessions' resignation

March 2, 2017

Representative Jan Schakowsky released the following statement calling for the resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions after it came to light that he had lied to the Senate Judiciary Committee while under oath:

“Jeff Sessions must resign immediately. While under oath during his Senate confirmation hearing, he lied about his meetings with Russian officials. This isn’t about politics, it’s about national security. Sessions violated the law by denying his contacts with a foreign government that according to our intelligence agencies was actively working to subvert our elections. The U.S. Attorney General serves as the top law enforcement official – by his actions, Sessions has violated the confidence of the American public and shown that he is unfit for the job.

“I reiterate my demand for an independent and bipartisan investigation on the connections between the Trump campaign and Russia to be launched as soon as possible.”
