Schakowsky Commemorates Veterans Day
EVANSTON - Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee, released the following statement commemorating Veterans Day:
"Today and every day, we honor our nation's veterans who bravely answered the call of duty to ensure the well-being and security of our great nation. The men and women who have served in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard were willing to risk their lives to serve the needs of our nation. Not only do veterans deserve our respect and recognition, but they also deserve to know that we have their backs.
"I have heard countless stories from veterans about the hardships they face when they return to civilian life. Whether they are working through post-traumatic stress or dealing with a debilitating physical injury, we must double down and ensure that we are providing our veterans with high-quality services and resources.
"This Congress, we have secured key relief for our veterans. Earlier this year, we passed the Honoring Our PACT Act, legislation that will expand eligibility for health care for veterans suffering from toxic exposure in the line of duty. We also provided critical funding for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) to ensure they have the resources necessary to provide care for our veterans, especially as many Americans require more expensive care after delaying medical appointments during the pandemic. These investments will go a long way toward helping care for our veterans.
"Let us honor our veterans by living up to their example—putting service before self-interest. I encourage all Americans to take a moment to thank the veterans and current servicemembers in their lives. If you are a veteran in need of assistance or know a veteran who may need assistance, please do not hesitate to call my office at (773) 506-7100. We will do whatever we can to assist you."
