Schakowsky Denounces Select Panel on its One Year Anniversary

October 7, 2016
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Select Panel Ranking Member Jan Schakowsky released the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the Panel:
“When Congress spends over a million dollars, hardworking Americans should expect that something good will result – that their taxpayer dollars will be used to make their lives better.
In the case of the Select Investigative Panel, the results are the exact opposite. This purely partisan effort has caused affirmative harm – not just attacking women’s access to health centers and reproductive services but undermining potentially life-saving medical research. Studies and clinical trials on diseases and conditions that impact millions of Americans have been delayed or halted. Some doctors have been put at risk because their names have been released by Panel Republicans.
Today, one year after the Panel’s establishment, Republicans still have no evidence to justify their inflammatory allegations or this Panel’s existence. It is time for this dangerous and reckless witch hunt to end. The panel should be disbanded immediately.”
