Schakowsky Joins Censure Resolution Against President Trump

August 18, 2017

Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Chief Deputy Whip, joined Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ), Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), and 75 other Members of Congress on a resolution to censure President Donald Trump. This resolution comes in response to President Trump’s insistence on blaming “both sides” for the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia and excusing the behavior of neo-Nazis, neo-Confederates, and white supremacists in the “Unite the Right” rally. After cosponsoring the resolution, Congresswoman Schakowsky released the following statement:

“President Trump’s tacit approval of the actions of white supremacists and neo-Nazis in Charlottesville is unacceptable and un-American. I am happy to see that white nationalist leader Steve Bannon has been removed from the White House staff, but President Trump must go further to distance himself from hateful rhetoric and terrorist tactics. With this censure resolution, my colleagues and I declare unequivocally that President Trump does not represent the character of our country. As an American Jew, I know there are no two sides to the story when one side is Nazism.”
