SCHAKOWSKY JOINS COLLEAGUES IN HONORING DR. DOROTHY IRENE HEIGHT

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today joined her colleagues in approving House Resolution 55 honoring Dr. Dorothy Irene Height.

"Mr. Speaker, I am proud to join with my colleagues in passing House Resolution 55, honoring Dr. Dorothy Irene Height as an activist and crusader for human rights. Dr. Height has dedicated her life to serving her community. She affected great change in the areas of women's empowerment, social welfare, economic development, and civil and human rights," Schakowsky said.

Schakowsky added, "She has been a tireless advocate, working for decades on behalf of socially and economically disadvantages communities. And she is perhaps most notable because she understands the diversity of this country and our world, utilizing a collaborative leadership style, to bring people of different cultures together for mutual benefit. She is a true leader in the struggle for equality and social justice."

She concluded, "Dr. Dorothy Irene Height is truly an amazing individual, for whom I have a great deal of admiration and respect."
