SCHAKOWSKY JOINS LABOR AND WORKING FAMILIES CAUCUS CO-CHAIRS MICHAUD, SANCHEZ, LYNCH, ALLIES IN ORGANIZED LABOR IN SPEAKING OUT AGAINST DR-CAFTA

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today joined labor groups and the Working Families Caucus Co-Chairs in speaking out against DR-CAFTA.

Below is Schakowsky's statement:

"I want to thank the co-Chairs of the Congressional Labor and Working Families Caucus (Congressman Michaud, Congressman Lynch, and Congresswoman Linda Sanchez) and our allies in organized labor for organizing this event today and for their leadership in the fight against CAFTA."

"CAFTA is a bad deal for workers and families in this country and a bad deal for workers in Central America and the Dominican Republic."

"CAFTA will continue the failed policy of NAFTA, which cost my home state of Illinois over 100,000 jobs."

"The U.S. has lost almost 1 million jobs due to NAFTA and CAFTA will bring us more of the same."

"CAFTA will lower working and living standards for workers in other countries and will kill jobs in the United States."

"That is why there is wide and growing bipartisan opposition to this bill here in the Congress. It endangers workers and jobs in the U.S. and abroad, it endangers our economy and it endangers the environment."

"We can and should do better."
