SCHAKOWSKY JOINS WOMEN DEMOCRATS TO DENOUNCE GOP FOR STONEWALLING GUN SAFETY LEGISLATION "IT IS INEXCUSABLE TO DELAY"

WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today joined women Democratic House members to oppose Republican stonewalling of common sense gun safety legislation.

Schakowsky expressed disappointment that Speaker Hastert (R-IL) will not appoint conferees before the July 4th recess, even though he promised to do so following the debate and vote on the juvenile justice bill earlier this month.

"Why would Speaker Hastert back away when American families are demanding action. Sadly, some members of Congress are listening more closely to the gun lobby while the epidemic of gun violence is destroying the lives of families throughout the nation," Schakowsky said.

"What is it going to take to convince those who oppose gun safety legislation that we have a crisis? It is inexcusable to delay," Schakowsky added.
