Schakowsky Lauds Passage of Water Infrastructure Bill
Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky released the following statement after both the House and Senate passed the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act:
“I am very pleased that Congress has now passed a water infrastructure bill authorizing $170 million in aid for the people of Flint, Michigan. I was devastated when I heard the stories of these families, both during my visit to Michigan and when Flint residents visited my office in September. I am disappointed that they had to suffer while House Republicans stalled negotiations, but I am relieved that they will finally get some of the federal aid they need.
“I was also proud to secure $200 million in authorized funding for the next phase of the Des Plaines River Project. I have worked with my colleagues to include the funding from start to finish, and am happy to see the appropriation pass both the House and the Senate. I am looking forward to the President adding his signature. The Des Plaines River Project will reduce flood risk in our communities, restore local ecosystems, and create jobs.”
