Schakowsky Marks the 70th Anniversary of Israel's Independence, Yom Ha'atzmaut

April 19, 2018

“I am very proud to join in celebrating the 70th anniversary of Israel’s Independence, Yom Ha’atzmaut – a celebration that represents the fulfillment of a centuries-long dream of the Jewish people.

“Israel was founded as a homeland and refuge for the Jewish people in the wake of one of history’s most haunting chapters. For seventy years it has been a beacon of hope and inspiration for the Jewish people. As we face a renewed threat of anti-Semitism at home and around the globe, the importance of Israel as a nation and a symbol endures.

“As Israel and Jews around the world celebrate this hopeful birthday, I reaffirm my commitment to supporting a vision of a vibrant and secure, Jewish and democratic Israel. Key to ensuring that this vision remains a reality is a two-state solution. Today we reaffirm our resolve to ensure that Israel not only endures, but thrives. We stay committed to a strong and enduring U.S.–Israel relationship and to ensuring that the people of Israel can live in peace and security. Am Yisrael chai!
