SCHAKOWSKY MEETS WITH EVANSTON POSTMASTER NIEVAS - MONTHLY MEETINGS TO FOLLOW
ENCOURAGES CONSTITUENTS TO CONTACT HER WITH COMPLAINTS
EVANSTON, IL - In their first meeting to discuss her constituents' concerns about mail delivery and service, U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) vowed to work closely with newly appointed Evanston Postmaster Samuel Nievas to handle the recent increase in complaints about postal service.
Schakowsky pointed to complaints she continues to receive from her constituents about postal mail delivery delays and she also discussed the concerns from letter carriers about work environment conditions.
Postmaster Nievas agreed to meet monthly with Schakowsky to provide a progress report about steps being taken to address the issues raised during this initial meeting and other problems. Schakowsky was also pleased that Postmaster Nievas has committed to responding to all congressional inquiries within 5 business days.
Schakowsky encouraged her constituents to contact her office at 847/328-3399 with any complaints or problems they may be experiencing with postal delivery or service in Evanston. Those concerns will be presented to Postmaster Nievas during the monthly meetings. The dates and times of those meeting will be posted on Schakowsky's webpage at http://intranet.house.gov/apps/list/press/il09_schakowsky/www.house.gov/schakowsky
"The residents of Evanston are entitled to timely mail delivery and quality service and letter carriers must be treated with respect and dignity. I believe Postmaster Nievas agrees and I look forward to working with him to accomplish these goals," Schakowsky said.
