Schakowsky Named Ranking Member of Innovation, Data and Commerce Subcommittee

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Chief Deputy Whip, released the following statement after being named the Ranking Member on the Innovation, Data and Commerce Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee:

“I’m honored to serve as the Ranking Member of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Innovation, Data, and Commerce for the 118th Congress. I’m looking forward to working with my friend, Chairman Gus Bilirakis, to build upon the great success we had last Congress. We worked in a bipartisan manner to pass bills that will protect our consumers and keep Americans safe, like the INFORM Consumers Act, which is going to help curb the onslaught of dangerous, counterfeit, and stolen products available to Americans shopping on online marketplaces, and the STURDY Act, which will keep dangerous furniture products that can injure and kill children off the market and out of our homes.

“Our first subcommittee hearing today emphasized the importance of passing the American Data Privacy and Protection Act, a bipartisan bill that would protect consumers’ online data privacy and ensure America’s global competitiveness. It is my hope that this Congress, we can work together again to advance this crucial piece of legislation.”
