SCHAKOWSKY OPPOSES POSSIBLE COMCAST-DISNEY MERGERWASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) issued the following statement in reaction to Comcast's bid to buy Disney. Schakowsky is a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee and the ranking Democrat on the Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection Subcommittee.

Below is Schakowsky's statement:

"The public interest will not be served by another mega media merger. Diversity of ideas and independent voices are practically non existent in the media today and a merger between two giants like Comcast and Disney would all but silence them.

"We are facing a tidal wave that will destroy the right of many people to be heard. Congress has a duty to turn back this wave of media mergers that is concentrating the power of ideas in the hands of a few giant corporations and wiping out competition."
