Schakowsky’s Statement Urging Administration to Veto Expected Anti-Israel Resolution

February 18, 2011

WASHINGTON, DC (February 17, 2011) — Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) issued the following statement in response to Palestinian efforts to use the United Nations to condemn Israel.

"I urge the Administration to veto the anticipated anti-Israel Security Council resolution, and I continue to support the President's efforts to facilitate negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians.  As much as I support peaceful negotiations for the establishment of a Palestinian state, I do not support efforts by the Palestinians to bypass negotiations with Israel by appealing to the United Nations.  Anti-Israel UN resolutions do nothing to further the cause of peace in the Middle East. Instead of pursuing such measures, I urge the Palestinians to return to the table for direct negotiations with Israel."
