October 12, 2018

Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and Congressman Brad Schneider announced that a $1.4 million grant was given to 16 fire departments in the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Division 3, which are in the 9th and 10th Congressional Districts. The grand was awarded through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. After announcing the grant, Reps. Schneider and Schakowsky released the following statements:

“Congratulations to the Evanston Fire Department and the 15 surrounding departments in MABAS District 3 that have been awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant of well over $1 million.” said Rep. Schakowsky, “All of us depend on firefighters for safety and these funds will give them the resources they need to protect us. The grant will allow 16 fire departments to significantly upgrade their communications capacity, leading to more responsive and effective emergency services for thousands of constituents throughout the 9th and 10th Congressional Districts. These dollars will also allow the departments to implement an accountability system to track personnel in real time during emergency situations. I am proud to have played a part in ensuring that federal dollars could meaningfully benefit communities here in Illinois.”

Rep. Schneider said “I offer my congratulations to the MABAS Division 3 team on this significant $1.4 million grant which will help communities including Deerfield-Bannockburn, Des Plaines, Glencoe, Glenview, Highland Park, Morton Grove, Northbrook, Niles, and Prospect Heights. This grant helps ensure our brave first responders, who put their lives on the line every day, have the best equipment and training available.”
