Schakowsky statement on Andrew Puzder withdrawing his nomination for Secretary of Labor

February 15, 2017

“Down goes Puzder!

It is difficult to believe that a fast-food tycoon with a penchant for wage-theft, a history of discriminating and mistreating working men and women, and more baggage than a commercial airliner was even considered for the position of Secretary of Labor. I am pleased to see that pressure from the public and from Democratic lawmakers finally made Republican Senators come to their senses, at least on this nomination, and ask for Mr. Puzder to withdraw. I sincerely hope that President Trump’s next Secretary of Labor nominee will be someone with a history of supporting unions and working to improve the lives, wages, and work environments of Americans - not another out-of-touch millionaire who thinks obedient robots should replace our workforce.”
