SCHAKOWSKY STATEMENT ON CASTRO'S RESIGNATION | ||
Washington, D.C.–U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) released the following statement today in response to Cuban President Fidel Castro's decision to resign. "I hope that Fidel Castro's resignation will usher in a new era of democracy in Cuba and help repair the relationship between our two nations,... said U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL). "The U.S. has an opportunity to play a positive role in Cuba by lifting the economic embargo and fostering democratic elections. Instead of encouraging and supporting reforms in Cuba through engagement, the embargo has only helped strengthen Castro's grip on the Cuban people and elevated tensions between our two countries.... |
