Schakowsky statement on the confirmation of Neil Gorsuch to the United States Supreme Court

Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky released the following statement after Senate Republicans changed crucial Senate rules to force their nominee onto the highest court in the United States:

“Senate Republicans made history for all the wrong reasons today. Last year, Senator McConnell and Senate Republicans ignored the Constitution and disrespected both President Obama and Judge Merrick Garland by denying an extremely qualified, completely mainstream nominee so much as a hearing. Now, they’ve upended Senate procedure to push the confirmation of a controversial judge who has regularly sided with corporations and against workers, women, consumers, and the environment. This is a sad day for Congress and our democracy. The cloud of this nomination process will always hang above the heads of Senator McConnell and Judge Gorsuch.”
