Schakowsky statement on district court decision in Texas v. United States
Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip, released the following in response to a district court decision in the Texas v. United States lawsuit striking down protections for people with pre-existing conditions and the Affordable Care Act:
“The Affordable Care Act has saved lives, improved health care, protected women and those living with pre-existing conditions, and given families peace of mind. It remains in place today and, despite yesterday's wrongheaded court decision, will remain in place tomorrow. I have no doubt that the Texas decision will be overturned on appeal.
“I am also sure that the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans will continue their campaign of ACA sabotage. As House Republicans found out when their repeal efforts were defeated, the American public will not let us go back to the days when insurance companies held all the cards -- able to restrict benefits, charge unaffordable premiums, or deny coverage altogether. The incoming Democratic majority will fight to protect the ACA and build on it to lower prescription drug prices and make health care affordable.”
