Schakowsky statement in honor of Memorial Day
Throughout our nation’s history, brave men and women have answered the call of duty and fought to protect our nation and its ideals. On Memorial Day, we come together to honor and remember the servicemembers who gave their lives in defense of this country.
We recognize the courageous men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom. We grieve with the families who have lost loved ones. And we remain committed to meeting the needs of all those who answer the call to serve the United States in our armed forces.
As we pause to remember the men and women who have died, we must redouble our commitment to serving those who serve us. We owe an enormous debt to servicemembers, military families, and veterans, and we need to ensure that they receive the health care, education, and other benefits that they have earned through their sacrifice. We must also strive to protect the American values and the Constitution that they defended.
