Schakowsky Statement on Jewish American Heritage Month

May 11, 2016

Rep. Jan Schakowsky released the following statement to honor Jewish American Heritage Month:

This Jewish American Heritage month we honor and celebrate the contributions that Jewish Americans and Jewish immigrants have made and continue to make to the fabric of our country. Jewish Americans have enriched our culture and our communities from my predecessor, former Congressman Sydney Yates, to renowned actor Mandy Patinkin both from Illinois. As a daughter of Jewish immigrants, I know first-hand how important it is that our community continues to play a role in shaping the future of this country. As we honor Jewish Americans this month, it is also important that we continue to ensure that anti-Semitism is not tolerated in this country or around the globe. That is why I oppose the Boycott, Divest and Sanctions movement and proudly work with the Congressional Anti-Semitism Taskforce to put an end to this hatred everywhere.”
