Schakowsky Statement on Marriage Equality

May 9, 2012
WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 9, 2012) -- Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) issued the following response to President Obama's statements in support of same-sex marriage:

"I commend President Obama for coming out in support of full marriage rights for individuals regardless of sexual orientation. As a member of the LGBT Equality Caucus I have long believed that individuals who love each other should be able to enter into and enjoy the benefits of marriage. This historic step by the President is a strong indication that these rights need to be recognized, and that we must continue to work hard every day to help that happen. Thank you, President Obama, for lifting the burden of discrimination and extending the reach of freedom and equality in the United States....
