Schakowsky Statement on Massacre at Pakistan School
(Evanston, IL) Rep. Schakowsky (D-IL) released the following statement in response to the killing of young children and school staff at a school in Pakistan:
I am outraged by the massacre of schoolchildren and staff at a school in Peshawar, Pakistan yesterday. Children should not have to fear for their lives simply because they are attending school and receiving a basic education. Acts of terror are always tragic, but when committed against children they are particularly horrific.
My deepest condolences go out to the friends and families of those who were lost, and I hope for the full recovery of those injured.
Malala Yousafzai, the brave young Pakistani activist recently awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her work, stated that she was heartbroken by these senseless killings. She urged the world to unite, standing up together to fight terror and ensure that all children receive a quality education. I echo those sentiments. I stand alongside Malala and millions of people in Pakistan and around the world condemning yesterday’s attack and saying that enough is enough. Citizens of Pakistan and elsewhere around the world must reject those who would engage in these horrific acts.
I hope that Pakistani officials will do what is necessary to bring the individuals organizing this attack to justice, and I am confident the United States will provide whatever assistance it can to ensure individuals are held accountable.
