Schakowsky Statement on Motion to Vacate the Speaker's Chair

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), a Chief Deputy Whip and the Ranking Member of the Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, released the following statement ahead of today's vote to Vacate the Speaker's Chair:

"It took 15 rounds of voting for Kevin McCarthy to win the speakership, and what did he do immediately after winning? Hand the gavel over to the far-right extremists in his party. Kevin McCarthy has broken too many promises to count. The American people deserve better. Today, I will solemnly cast my vote to Vacate the Chair."
