Schakowsky Statement on the Nomination of Andrew Puzder for Secretary of Labor

December 8, 2016

WASHINGTON- Today, Congresswoman Schakowsky released the following statement on reports that Andrew Puzder will be nominated to serve as Secretary of Labor:

"Candidate Donald Trump knows how to play to an audience – creating the character of a ‘middle class billionaire’ who acted as if he cared about improving the wages and lives of working women and men.

Today, reality sets in. President-Elect Trump has nominated Andrew Puzder to head the Department of Labor – the CEO of Hardees and Carl’s Jr. who opposes raising the minimum wage, opposes guaranteed overtime rules, and opposes holding employers accountable for their treatment of employees. Andrew Puzder is no friend of working families. By selecting him to be the head of the Labor Department, Donald Trump proves that no matter what he said on the campaign trail, neither is he."
