Schakowsky Statement on Passage of HR 987
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip, made the following statement upon passage of H.R. 987, the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act:
“Today, we voted to make impactful, lasting changes that will lower the cost of health care and prescription drugs for Americans nationwide. I am proud that we have an opportunity today to do what was impossible while Republicans were in charge last Congress.
“The President has said that he wants the Republicans to be known as the party of health care, yet nothing they have done while in the majority has actually improved access to high quality health care for the American people.
“The Affordable Care Act and prescription drug affordability are two pillars of health care access. It has expanded health care to millions of people and is immensely popular among the public. Now, we are ready to improve all aspects of health care for Americans—from health insurance to prescription drug pricing, and this legislation we have passed today does just that.
” I urge Republicans in the Senate to swiftly join us, and take up this legislation, and end the political grandstanding.”
