Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) released the following statement today on the passing of Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones. "I'm stunned and deeply saddened by the tragic and sudden loss of my colleague and close friend Stephanie Tubbs Jones. My heart goes out to everyone who loved her, especially her son Mervyn, whom she always spoke of with such great pride. Stephanie's love of life, humor, and warm personality were absolutely infectious. To know Stephanie was to love her. Stephanie lived every moment of her life to the fullest and broke a number of barriers along the way. Stephanie's quick wit, brilliant mind and steadfast dedication to the principles she believed in made this Congress and this country a better place. No one will ever be able to replace Stephanie-she was truly one of a kind. While we will all miss Stephanie dearly, we are eternally grateful for the time we were able to spend with her." |
