Schakowsky statement on President Trump's first 100 days

April 29, 2017

"In his first 100 days, President Trump has broken his promises of bringing manufacturing back to our country and creating jobs. In fact, he hasn't even attempted to improve the lives and livelihoods of Americans. Instead, the first 100 days of his presidency have been marked by attacks on immigrants, women, Muslims, and LGBTQ individuals. They have been full of devastating policy shifts that will irreparably harm our environment and spell disaster for middle class Americans. In 100 days he has twice tried (and twice failed) to rip apart our health care system and take coverage away from 24 million people. President Trump and his Administration have attempted again and again to divide our country and turn groups of people against each other. Thankfully, they have not been effective.

"Something else has been happening in these last 100 days: in my district and across the country, Americans have been standing up and resisting the Trump agenda with unwavering passion. At historic rates, millions of people have taken to marches, town hall meetings, kitchen tables, coffee shops and organizing committees to voice their opposition to the Trump/GOP agenda and turn their frustration into action. Unlike the Trump Administration, this movement has been very effective. I am proud to stand with them, and will continue to fight for an inclusive, strong America that works for everyone - not just the rich and powerful few."
