Schakowsky statement on the Republican Continuing Resolution
Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Chief Deputy Whip and a member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement after voting ‘no’ on the Republican Continuing Resolution that came before the House today:
“The short-term spending bill that passed the House today was a disgrace. It fails to reauthorize health care for the 9 million kids who rely on the Children’s Health Insurance Program, fails to resolve the uncertainty and fear that President Trump created for DREAMers, and it fails to provide the amount of disaster relief that would be necessary to truly rebuild Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
“Instead of using their full control of the federal government to move an agenda that improves the lives of working men and women – or even to guarantee that kids get health care and that hard-working young people aren’t deported – Republicans have spent their time finding more and more creative ways to improve the lot of millionaires, billionaires, and corporate special interests. Even in this cruel pursuit, they have been ineffective, bringing us once again to the brink of a government shutdown just to kick the can two weeks down the road. Republicans have the wrong priorities and are incapable of governing. It truly is shameful to watch.”
